As Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Mark Simms is responsible for technical design, strategy and coordination across all of Twilio's products and infrastructure, and leads engineering for Twilio’s communications platform. These include core areas of messaging, email, cross-channels, voice, video, AI, traffic intelligence, and Flex.

After graduating from the Memorial University of Newfoundland with a degree in Computer Engineering in 2002, he co-founded a technology startup focused on automating asset management through RFID and managed services. In 2008 he joined Microsoft where he held key responsibilities in the Azure cloud division focusing on bringing the largest and most sophisticated customer workloads into the cloud. During his tenure as Director of Architecture for Azure, his contributions were instrumental in enhancing the resilience of Azure's mission critical operational systems, as well as adapting and growing key Azure systems to meet the surge of demand through the pandemic.

Following this long-standing association with Microsoft, Mark Simms transitioned to Twilio in 2022 as the Chief Technology Officer. Mark resides in Eastern Washington where he takes full advantage of the rugged landscape as an outdoor enthusiast, particularly rafting where he has been known to take a meeting or two navigating some pretty wild waters.
